HOW TO SET UP ACRO TO WORK IN UBUNTU (7.04 Feisty Fawn)

(Use at your own risk!)

Step 1 (Downloading Acro setup file):

a.) Click here to download the Acro Challenge (Windows version) setup file. Save the file to your desktop.

Step 2 (Setting up Wine):
Wine is a program for *nix based operating systems that allows you to run and install windows applications. These commands are for Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn.
For other (older) Ubuntu operating systems, you can find Wine (and the commands) for them here.

a.) Open up a "Terminal" window by clicking on "Applications" -> "Accessories" -> "Terminal"

**When typing these commands into your Terminal window, they need to be exact. Cut and Paste might work better for you, the Paste option is located in the "Edit" menu in your Terminal Window.

b.) Type in: wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

(PRESS ENTER)

c.) Type in: sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/feisty.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list

(PRESS ENTER)

d.) Type in: sudo apt-get update

(PRESS ENTER)

d.) Type in: sudo apt-get install wine

(PRESS ENTER)

Step 3 (Optional, I think...):
This step is not required to run Acro, however, if you decide you like using Wine to run windows apps, and want to install other software, it would be a good idea to do this now, instead of later (who knows, it could be required to run acro, I didn't try to install acro without this, but I don't think it is required):

a.) Type in: sudo apt-get install cabextract

(PRESS ENTER)

Step 4 (Installing Acro with Wine):
With the terminal still open, you need to change to the directory that you downloaded ACsetup.exe into, this is how you do that (replace 'username' with your login, mine is matt so on the screenshot mine will be matt):
** (Make sure to capitolize the D in desktop, or the commands will not work, this is Linux, not Windows)

a.) Type in: cd /home/'username'/Desktop

(PRESS ENTER)

Now you need to run the Acro Challenge setup file utilizing Wine, this is how you do that:

b.) Type in: sudo wine ACsetup.exe

(PRESS ENTER)

Now that the Acrochallenge installer is up and running, install it if it were a normal program, type in your username and organization, then click next and install (i'd put your Ubuntu username in there, because i'm not sure how the two programs handle permissions).

Your terminal window should look like this, and it is normal:

Click Finish to complete the installation of Acrochallenge (your almost done, not quite though)
A screen will pop up saying "Wine Gecko Installer"

c.) CLICK ON INSTALL (Wine Gecko Installer), you must do this for acro to work properly.

Step 5 (Cleaning up desktop):
As you can probably see the installation file from acro made two links on your desktop, this is because the installation package automatically creates a link for Windows, however that link doesn't point to anything because you are in a Linux environment. The Wine program however, automatically created a link also, this one points to the application and automatically runs Acro for you...

a.) This is the link that the Windows installer package created, you can delete this one:

b.) This is the link that Wine created, and will bring up acro, keep this one, unless you want to open up terminal and type in commands to open the program... If you want to do that, you are on your own, i'm not making another tutorial, lol:
